Leaves densely tufted at base of stem, stipulate bases of petioles congested in obconic masses; blade usually < 50 mm in diameter, digitately cut to base into 5 lobes, lower segments pinnatisect divided, linear, usually 1-2 mm broad, margins revolute, discolorous, glabrous or sparsely appressed-hairy on upper surface, densely white appressed-hairy on lower surface; petioles several times longer than blade. Flowers: inflorescence usually 2-flowered; peduncles opposite upper leaves, much exceeding them, with appressed, retrorse hairs; pedicels > 50 mm long, hairy; petals obovate, 11-20 x 8-14 mm, pink to blue-purple or white with coloured veins; Dec.-Feb.
