Radical leaves in tufts; lamina up to 50 mm in diam., digitally cut into 5 bipinnatisect lobes, ultimate segments 1-2 mm wide, margins revolute; upper surface glabrous to sparsely hairy, lower surface with retrorse hairs, strongly appressed, ± spreading; petioles up to 300 mm long; cauline leaves similar with short petioles. Inflorescences opposite upper leaves, usually 2-flowered; peduncles much exceeding upper leaves, gland-tipped hairs present; pedicels up to 40 mm long, hairy. Sepals 6-9 x 2.5-3.5 mm, excluding mucro. Petals obovate, 15-19 x 10-16 mm long, serrate, shallowly notched, violet, purple or magenta. Flowering time Nov.-Jan.
