Characteristics

Leaves very unequal and usually 2–5 times as long as broad. Cushion-like perennial with short, prostrate branches. Leaves in annual increments of 2 or 3 decussate pairs, fused, spreading, unequal, the larger to 15 x 6 mm, slightly compressed, the smaller only a quarter as long. Flowers red or magenta, 12-15 mm diam. Fruits 6-or 7-locular.
