Characteristics

Herb 30–50 cm tall. Stems 1–2 mm diam. Leaves terete to linear or narrowly lanceolate; lamina 15–25 mm long. Inflorescence of 5 or 6 dichasia of 7–63 flowers; bracts narrowly lanceolate, 7–9 mm long, adnate to peduncle, green; bracteoles narrowly oblanceolate, 1–2 mm long. Flowers 2-merous, yellow. Sepals 0.7–1.0 mm long. Petals hooded, 3.5–4.0 mm long; tip not reflexed in bud. Stamens 4. Ovary compressed pyriform, 3–3.5 mm long; wings 2, decurrent; styles 0.5–0.7 mm long; stigmas yellow. Fruit obovate, 8.5–10 mm long, with a saccate longitudinal swelling opposite sepals, yellow to reddish; wings 2, c. 2 mm wide; sepals enlarged.
