Characteristics

Compact plants with decumbent leaves, more than 4 to a branch in dense, distichous arrangement, leaves strap-shaped with rounded tips, leaves of seedlings decussate, spreading and acute; bladder cells reduced, in strictly horizontal arrangement along the margins; capsules forming tumble fruits, top and rims very high (3-4 mm), locules mostly 9, valves with awns; seeds laterally compressed, testa cells low and elongate, very few short rodlets, length above 1.60 mm, width above 1.15 mm.

Perennial, compact, dwarf shrublet, up to 0.1 m high. Leaves highly succulent, decumbent, smooth, strap-shaped with rounded apex. Flowers almost sessile, solitary, yellow. Flowering time June, July. Capsules pale brown, mostly 9-locular, tops high, valves thick and spongy, valve wings absent, expanding keels ending in awns, covering membranes complete.
