Characteristics

Slender caespitose or shortly rhizomatous perennial, not rooting from lower nodes. Culms erect, to 110 cm high. Leaves: sheaths lacking obvious cross-veins; ligule c. 2.5–5 mm long, obtuse to acute, soon lacerated; blade to ?20 cm long (insufficient material available), c. 2.5–5 mm wide, lacking cross-veins, adaxially scabridulous. Inflorescences spike-like panicles or racemes, slender, often ±interrupted, (7–) 10–15 cm long. Spikelets ovate, 12–19 mm long, with 2–6 bisexual florets; rachilla pubescent, with hairs to 0.25 mm long. Glumes lanceolate, narrowly obtuse; lower glume 7–11 mm long, 3–5 (–7)-nerved; upper glume 8–11 mm long, 5–7-nerved. Lemma narrowly ovate, 6–9 mm long, obtuse, often shallowly emarginate, with midrib occasionally exserted as a minute mucro, dorsally obtusely angled, lightly and evenly covered by short appressed or sub-appressed fine hairs. Palea shorter than lemma by 1–2 mm, shortly apically notched, puberulous. Anthers 3–4 mm long. Caryopsis dorsiventrally compressed, longitudinally grooved.
