Characteristics

Perennial herb, c. 60 cm. Stem erect, woody, 4-angled, sulcate, densely tomentose. Leaves oblong to elliptic ovate, 6-12(-18) by 3.5-4.5(-7) cm, acute; base attenuate; margin crenulate-serrulate, hispid above, densely greyish tomentose beneath; petiole l-1.5(-3)cm. Flowers ∞, in axillary subglobular verticillasters, the upper ones almost forming an interrupted spurious spike. Bracts linear lanceolate, 6-12 by 2-3 mm. Calyx tubular-campanulate, 12-14 mm long, in fruit 16-22 mm; teeth broadly lanceolate, 7-9 mm long. Corolla white or creamy yellow, 8-10 mm long, incurved, inside hirsute below the throat. Nutlets 1-3, smooth, glabrous, ellipsoid, 4.5(-6) by 2.5 (-5) mm.
