Leaves up to 8–40 x 2–10 mm., narrowly elliptic to elliptic or oblanceolate, acute to almost rounded with attenuate base, ± hirsute or glabrous; margin slightly incrassate, ± undulate–crenate; midvein protruding beneath, lateral veins obscure.
Style glabrous or rarely hairy below, eglandular; lobes 2, 0·5–1·6 mm. long, often slightly unequal in length; pollen–collecting hairs present on style–lobes only.
Calyx–lobes 3–5, 1·5–5(10) mm. long, often of varying length, narrowly triangular to oblanceolate or narrowly oblong, glabrous or ± hirsute, sparsely denticulate.
Capsules up to 10 mm. long, obovoid to narrowly obconical or cylindrical, often slightly curved upwards, prominently 5–10 nerved, glabrous or hirsute.
Stamens 3–4(5), 2–3·2 mm. long; filament–bases narrowly triangular to broadly angular–obovate, glabrous or ciliate; anthers 0·6–1·6 mm. long.
Seeds 0·5–0·8 mm. long, elliptic in outline, often ± reniform, slightly compressed; testa sulcate, rarely with hair–like projections.
Annual ascending or decumbent, rarely erect herb, 4–40 cm. tall, usually much branched from the base.
