Creeping annual herbs. Flowers 1–3, terminal or axillary, 4–5–6-merous (varying even on the same plant). Calyx-tube ovoid; lobes narrow, persistent, without intersepalar appendages. Stamens equal; anthers ovoid to shortly oblong; connective produced below the anther, with 2 inconspicuous tubercular anterior appendages at the junction of the filament. Ovary adherent to the calyx-tube in the lower half, ovoid, glabrous; style sigmoid. Capsule valvate within the membranous calyx, which tends to rupture irregularly. Seeds only slightly cochleate, nearly turbinate, with a rounded wrinkled upper half.
