Characteristics

Trees or shrubs. Leaves petiolate, entire, furnished with opaque glandular dots and stellate or dendroid indumentum. Inflorescence a terminal cymose panicle. Sepals 5, furnished with glands. Petals ± villous within, furnished with glands. Stamens in 5 bundles opposite the petals, few in each bundle, with the upper part of the filaments free. Staminodes fleshy, scale-like, alternating with the staminal bundles. Ovary 5-locular. Styles 5, ± free. Ovules 2 (3) per loculus, basal. Fruit a drupe with 5 pyrenes adhering to form a spherical mass. Seeds cylindric, curved.
