Characteristics

Perennial herb, parasite, 0.05-0.29 m high; stem maroon to deep red, simple. Leaves opposite or subopposite, sessile, scale-like, appressed, elliptical to ovate, 6-9 x 3-4 mm, apex obtuse to acute; puberulous. Inflorescence terminal with 4-10(-22) crimson-orange flowers. Bracts opposite, elliptic to lanceolate, villous. Calyx 12-25 x 6-7 mm, campanulate or subconical at base, bilabiate, externally pubescent to villous, internally glabrous; lobes lanceolate to narrowly deltate. Corolla tough; tube bright yellow inside the throat, externally pubescent, internally glabrous. Stamens didynamous, nearly exserted, inserted above base of corolla; filaments flattened, glabrous; anthers bithecous. Ovary ovoid; style exserted incurved below stigma; stigma oblong. Flowering time Nov.-Jan.
