Characteristics

Annual or perennial herb, parasite, 0.11-0.65 m high; stem dusky brown to greenish yellow, covered in glandular hairs, simple, viscid. Leaves concave, ovate, elliptical or lanceolate, 4-18 x 3-8 mm, apex acute to obtuse; pubescent or villous, hairs appressed or antrorse. Inflorescence with 2-10 flowers, white with pink edge. Bracts ovate to lanceolate, villous. Calyx 17-22 x 10-13 mm, campanulate or obconical at base, bilabiate, externally villous, internally pubescent; lobes deltate to lanceolate. Corolla ampliate; tube laterally compressed, externally villous, internally puberulent; limb oblique, bilabiate; lobes obovate. Stamens didynamous, inserted. Pistil chlorophyllous green. Ovary ovoid; stigma bright green, globose, somewhat bilobed. Flowering time Nov.-Jan.

Parasitic perennial to 40 cm. Flowers in loose racemes, narrowly funnel-shaped with large petals, compressed in throat, white or tinged pink with yellow throat, calyx shortly lobed, stigma subglobose.
Like H. purpurea but corolla tube strongly compressed laterally, segments white to cream-coloured or slightly tinged with pink at tips, stigma green.
