Leaves opposite to subopposite; upper 30–55 x 5–14 mm., lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, entire, obtuse or acute, cuneate at base, scabrid on margin and midrib beneath; lower small, scale-like.
Flowers solitary in axils of upper leaves, opposite, curved, pedicellate, pedicels 7–11 mm. long, erect, lengthening to 20 mm. or more at maturity.
Calyx 15–20 mm. long, sparsely to densely glandular-pilose; lobes 5–10 mm. long, unequal, lanceolate-triangular, acute.
Annual, more or less densely glandular-pilose herb; stems erect, simple 20–50 cm. tall, to c. 6 mm. in diam.
Capsule 10 x 7 mm., ovoid or broadly ellipsoid, glabrous, shortly beaked.
