Characteristics

Perennial herb, parasite, 0.03-0.70 m high; stem maroon or green with maroon markings, glabrescent at base, villous at apex. Leaves subsessile, elliptical, rarely obovate or oblanceolate, 6-10 x 2-5 mm, apex acute; upper surface pubescent, hairs appressed or directed upwards, lower surface glabrous to puberulent. Inflorescence with 2-6 orange-red flowers. Bracts opposite, lanceolate to oblanceolate, concave, villous. Calyx 13-23 x 7-14 mm, campanulate or obconical proximally, villous externally, internally pubescent at tips of lobes, glabrous at base; lobes deltate. Corolla membranous; tube subcompressed, externally pubescent, internally villous; throat yellow. Stamens not didynamous, inserted ± middle of corolla tube; filaments flattened, glabrous; anthers bithecous. Ovary flask-shaped; style incurved at tip, oblong; stigma oblong. Flowering time Nov.-Mar.
