Leaves sessile or subsessile, thick, rigid, spreading, 3–12(30) x 1-2(4) mm., elliptic to lanceolate, apex acute or obtuse, cuneate or rounded at base, minutely short-hispid to subglabrous, margin shallowly or deeply serrate or crenate, ± reflexed.

Stems several arising from a woody rootstock, much branched especially within inflorescence, rarely almost simple, terete, usually more or less densely pubescent with straight or hooked, patent or retrorse, glandular hairs.
Calyx 5–7.5 mm. long, shortly hispid; lobes equal to or slightly shorter than the tube, slightly bilabiate with lobes at rimes irregularly crenate-dentate.
Corolla white to pink or magenta, obliquely campanulate; tube curved, shorter than limb; limb almost equally 5-lobed.
Flowers white to pale pink or at times purple, opposite to subopposite, pedicels 2–5 mm. long.
Capsule (5)6.5–13 x (4.5)5–6.5 mm., ovoid to subglobose, short to long pilose.
Perennial suffrutescent herb, erect, ascending or scrambling to 3 m. tall.
Seeds slightly curved, longitudinally ridged with 6–14 ridges.
Inflorescence a usually much branched many-flowered raceme.
