Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 6 m; branchlets glabrous. Leaves elliptic, lanceolate or ovate, acute, entire, glabrous, firmly chartaceous; lamina mostly 5-17 cm long and 1.5-6 cm wide; base acutely cuneate; secondary veins 6-9 pairs; petiole 2-6 mm long. Raceme axis very short or to 2 cm long; pedicels filiform, to 2 cm long. Sepals broadly ovate, 0.8-1.3 mm long. Petals oblong or elliptic to oblong-obovate, 3.2-6 mm long. Staminal filaments 0.2-0.5 mm long; anthers 0.8 mm long. Disc thick, fleshy, c. 2 mm diam. Capsule bony, ovoid, subglobose or depressed-globular, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 1.5-2 cm diam. Seeds ellipsoidal or ovoid, 3-angled, c. 8 mm long, 3 mm wide; aril at base and on one side, fleshy.
