Panicle narrowly oblong, 10–25 cm. long, loose, flexuous.. Spikelets 3–5-flowered, oblong or elliptic-oblong, 8–12 mm. long, loose, the florets well exserted; rhachilla-internodes 1.5–2.5 mm. long, conspicuously bearded above the middle with soft hairs longer than itself; glumes hyaline; lower glume lanceolate, 3–5 mm. long, 1-nerved; upper glume narrowly oblong, 5–6.5 mm. long, 3-nerved; lemmas herbaceous with hyaline tips, the lower 5.5–7 mm. long, glabrous, finely 7-nerved, pale green, sometimes purplish just below the tips, shortly bifid with the lobes acute and sometimes bearing a short fine bristle; awn from the upper third of the lemma, geniculate, 10–15 mm. long.
