Lemmas 7-12 mm. long, 7-nerved, herbaceous, linear-lanceolate in profile, with the margins hyaline; apex 2-lobed, with the lobes drawn out into slender bristles; awn inserted beneath the apex, up to 22 mm. long, somewhat geniculate, not much twisted.
Glumes not exceeding the following lemma, herbaceous with the margins thinner in texture; the inferior 3-6 mm. long, 1-nerved, narrowly lanceolate; the superior 3.75-8.25 mm. long, 3-nerved, oblong-lanceolate.
Panicle 10-27 cm. long, narrowly oblong or elliptic-oblong in outline, loose; rhachis slender, flexuous; branches filiform, usually paired, ascending to almost erect, flexuous.
Spikelets 12-15 mm. long, 3-4-flowered, narrowly oblong in outline, loose, green; rhachilla internodes 2.5-3 mm. long, pilose towards the apex.
Leaf-sheaths usually shorter than the culm internodes, glabrous and smooth, the lowermost persistent and usually becoming golden-brown.
Culms 40-125 cm. tall, 3-more-noded, erect or ascending from a geniculate base, simple or branched below, slender to somewhat stout.
Leaf-laminae 6-30(40) x 0.35-0.8 cm., usually expanded, firm, usually glabrous, rarely scattered, pilose on the upper surface.
Ligule 2.5-4 mm. long, often lacerate.
Caryopsis 3-4 mm. long, rather soft.
