Leaf-blades 10–20 cm. long and 1–5 mm. broad, flat or sometimes involute, sparsely pubescent above; ligule 2 mm. long.. Panicle linear, 7–20 cm. long, flexuous or stiff, the branches erect.. Spikelets 2–4-flowered, narrowly oblong, 9–16 mm. long, the florets well exserted; rhachilla-internodes 2–2.5 mm. long, pilose above; glumes hyaline; lower glume narrowly lanceolate, 3–7 mm. long, 1-nerved (rarely sub–3-nerved); upper glume oblong-lanceolate, 5–9 mm. long, 3-nerved; lemmas firmly membranous, the lower 7–10 mm. long (longer than the upper glume), smooth, often tinged with purple, 5–7-nerved, shortly bilobed with the lobes often drawn out into a bristle; awn from just above the middle, 13–20 mm. long, geniculate with a twisted column.
