Characteristics

Glabrous herbs with annual stems from a perennial crown, up to 60 cm tall. Leaves 4.5-6.5 cm long, 0.7-1.5 cm broad, lanceolate-oblong, sessile, auriculate-amplexicaul, acute. Racemes terminal, many-flowered. Pedicels 1.5-2.5 cm long in flower, slender, arching, lengthening and recurving with age. Sepals 5-7 mm long, oblong; outer 2 cucullate, shortly horn-tipped; inner 2 saccate. Petals 6.5-10 mm long, 4.5-5 mm broad, broadly obovate, clawed, each with a large papillate appendage. Filaments 3.8-4.4 mm and 4-4.9 mm long, the 2 short ones each with a large, papillate appendage. Anthers 1.5-1.9 mm long. Ovary narrowly elliptic or ± oblong, shortly stipitate; style stout, stigma capitate; ovules 4-8. Fruits not seen.
