Characteristics

Herba perennis; caules basi plus minusve horizontales, ramosi, usque ad 10 mm diametro, basibus foliorum persistentibus asperi, rosulas foliorum emittentes. Folia radicalia rosulata, c.7-15 cm x 10-11 mm, oblanceolata, acuta, simplicia, crassiuscula, glabra. Caules floriferi c.30-85 cm longi, effusi, foliati; folia caulina radicalibus similia, usque ad 10 cm x 8 mm, sursum gradatim minora, minute stipulata. Racemi simplices, terminales, sub fructibus elongati. Pedicelli anthesi 1.8-2.5 cm longi, sub fructibus ad 4 cm et curvati. Sepala 6-7 x 2 mm, duo exteriora cucullata apicibus incrassatis, duo interiora basibus leniter saccata. Petala 11 x 9 mm, obovata, laete vel saturate violacea, ungui brevi appendice obliqua papillata uno latere praedito. Filamenta brevia 2, 4 mm longa, appendice basali magna ovata papillata; longiora 4, 5 mm longa, inappendiculata, ad basin papillata. Antherae 3.5 mm longa. Ovarium 5.5 mm longum, anguste oblongum, ovulis in quoque loculo 9; nectaria 2, bipartita, partibus plus minusve globosis. Stylus anthesi 2.5 mm longus. Stigma capitatum. Fructus c.4-6 cm longus, stylo persistente 6-10 mm longo excluso, 4.5 mm lat levissime moniliformis.

Flowering stems drooping downwards; flower apex turning upward; stipules minute. Flowers violet, sweet smell similar to that of Nerium oleander. Sepals outer cucullate; inner saccate. Petals obovate.
