Annual herbs, usually with several ascending or decumbent stems 10-40 cm high; stems glabrous or just the few basal nodes puberulous. Leaves 0.5-5 cm long, pinnately 3-11-lobed in the upper half (juvenile leaves and uppermost leaves often simple), the lobes filiform, glaucous, minutely puberulous on the upper surface. Racemes terminal, lax, few-flowered. Pedicels puberulous in the lower part, 0.7-1.5 cm long in flower, slender, erect; 1-2 cm long in fruit, stout, sharply reflexed or reflexed-spreading. Sepals 3.5-5 mm long, linear-oblong, reddish with membranous margins; outer 2 cucullate, horn-tipped; inner 2 saccate. Petals 6-8 mm long, 2-5-5 mm broad, obovate, rounded, clawed, or 4.5-5 x 1.3-1.5 mm, broadly oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, acute, cuneate, always with a small appendage. Filaments 2.9-4 mm and 3.4-4.3 mm long, the 2 short ones with a small papillate appendage, or papillate or ridged at the base. Anthers 1-1.7 mm long. Ovary linear, glabrous or puberulous in the lower part; style short, stout; stigma large; ovules 42-60. Fruits 3-6.5 cm long, 0.8-1 mm in diameter, linear, subcylindric with straight margins; valves 1-nerved, bulged by the seeds, glabrous or minutely puberulous in the lower part; style 0.8-1.5 mm long, stout, cylindrical.
