Leaves only 1 per node; blade linear to narrowly ovate or obovate, 20-125 x 0.5-7.0 mm, subulate, thin or slightly fleshy; stipulate. Flowers: in terminal, contracted racemes, lax in fruit; peduncles ± leafless; style 5.5-12.0 mm long, stigma small, capitate; petals broadly obovate, 6.5-11.5 x 4-10 mm, each with a large, papillate appendage on one side of claw, or occasionally each petal with large, hollow, cup-like gland on inside of claw; mauve, blue, white; Nov.-Jan. Fruit with pedicels recurved or reflexed, siliquae linear-oblong or narrowly ovate, 30-70 x 3-8 mm.

Leaves stipulate, thin or fleshy, linear to narrowly lanceolate or oblanceolate-subulate. Inflorescence a terminal raceme; peduncle ± leafless. Flowers shades of pink, mauve, lilac, blue or purple. Sepals oblong, caducous; outer 2 cucullate; inner 2 saccate. Petals circular-obovate; claw with papillate appendage on one side or hollow; cup-like gland on inside. Flowering time Nov.-Feb. Fruit linear-oblong or lanceolate, margins straight, stipitate. Seeds subcircular to oblong, broadly winged.
