Characteristics

Perennial, caespitose, dwarf shrublet, up to 0.3 m high, stems woody, upright. Leaves glaucous, covered by wax, thick, falcate, keel rounded, apex blunt, older leaves black with age. Flowers solitary to 3-nate, yellow with reddish apex. Flowering time spring. Capsules 5-locular, covering membranes complete, expanding keels diverging widely ending in an awn, valve wings very narrow, placental closing bodies small.

Dense, succulent shrub, up to 120 mm tall, 300 mm diam. Leaves falcate, 25-32 x up to 7 mm, up to 11 mm thick, keel rounded, epidermis a little rough. Flowers solitary or in elongate monochasia, bracteoles connate for most of their length, forming a cup below flower, petals yellow, red outside. Fruit base short, 5-locular, closing bodies absent, valve wings narrow.
