Characteristics

Flowering culms 9–45 cm high. Leaf blades usually flat or convolute (when dry), 3–8 cm long, 0.6–3.5 mm wide. Inflorescences paniculate, 3.5–20 cm long. Spikelets pedicellate, broadly ovate to circular, as long as wide, 3–3.5 mm long, 3–5-flowered, with 1–2 bisexual florets. Glumes ±equal, 1.7–3 mm long, at least half the spikelet length. Basal lemma broadly lanceolate in side view, 2.8–3.2 mm long, with hairless margins; midnerve smooth; lateral nerves approximately midway between midnerve and margin. Palea: apex ciliolate; keels hairless, minutely scaberulous. Caryopsis subterete. Incomplete florets 1–3 per spikelet.

Environment

Considered rare,but reported as locally common on road and track margins particularly in wettersites in drains. Occurs on lower slopes in open forest or woodland of such speciesas Eucalyptus tetrodonta, E. clarksoniana, E. polycarpa, E. confertiflora and E. platyphylla, on podsolic or rocky soils.
