Characteristics

Lianas or arching shrubs to 2.5 m tall; stem sericeous, with weak interpetiolar ridges and also with slender ribs extending downward from the petioles, the trichomes brown, T-shaped. Leaves opposite, oblong-elliptic, gradually acumi-nate (the acumen acute to rounded at the apex and apiculate with the margins rolled inward), acute to obtuse at the base, 9-12 cm long, 3.0-4.5 cm wide, above glabrous, drying dark brown, beneath densely tan-brown sericeous, the trichomes T-shaped, short, completely contiguous; primary lateral veins 10-12 pairs, ar-cuate-ascending to the margins; the secondary veins moderately obscure; petioles 7-10 mm long, conspicuously canaliculate, sericeous to tomentose, with a pair of plate shaped glands borne adaxially near the apex; stipules subulate, borne near the apex on the upper surface. Inflorescence of axillary umbels; peduncles 6-8 mm long, sericeous; bracts narrowly triangular-ovate, ca. 2 mm long, densely pubescent; bracteoles ovate, ca. 1 mm long, pubescent; pedicels slender, 10-12 mm long, sericeous to weakly patulous-pubescent, the T-shaped trichomes short and stout. Flowers with the calyx lacking obvious glands, the sepals ca. 2 mm long, obtuse at the apex, densely appressed-pubescent outside and glabrous with-in, folding along the middle when drying; petals not seen. Schizocarp of 3 sa-maras, each samara with 2 large lateral wings, these orbicular-auriculate, mem-branaceous, 2.5-3.0 cm long, 2.0-2.5 cm wide, drying orange-brown, thinly appressed, silvery-pubescent, the veins prominulous, the outer margin smoothly irregular, the dorsal wing absent or scarcely more than 1 mm high, the semini-ferous area 3-4 mm long, densely pubescent.
