Characteristics

Deciduous trees, unarmed. Leaf-blades penninerved, ± equal-sided, punctate below with small rounded cystoliths. Inflorescences congested cymose with ♂ and hermaphrodite flowers. Sepals 4–6(–8), shortly united at the base. Stamens equal in number to the sepals or usually a few more; anthers pubescent. Ovary compressed, 2-locular, but only one ovule matured; styles spreading, unbranched, persistent. Fruit a stipitate samara, with broad rounded wings fused to the lower part of the styles
