Characteristics

Tree to 30 m or shrub; young branchlets puberulous, glabrescent, with lenticels. Leaves coriaceous, glabrous except on youngest shoots, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate or elliptic-obovate, acute or acuminate, rarely obtuse; lamina mostly 5–9 cm long, 2–4.5 cm wide, shallowly serrate; base cuneate to rounded or decurrent; secondary veins usually 7 or 8 pairs; petiole 3–6 mm long. Inflorescence racemose, 4–18 cm long, pubescent; bracts and bracteoles setaceous, 0.6–1 mm long; pedicels 0.5–2 mm long. Flowers 5–7—merous. Hypanthium obconical, 1.5 mm long, pubescent; sepals and petals pubescent. Sepals narrowly ovate to linear, 1.5–2 mm long. Petals linear to obovate, 2–2.5 mm long. Stamens 2 or 3 opposite each petal; filaments sparsely pilose towards base, 2–2.5 mm long. Disc glands depressed, pubescent. Ovary pilose inside; ovules 8–12; styles 4–6, pilose towards ovary.
