Characteristics

Stems: erect, 5 to 7 cm long, 1 to 2 cm thick excluding the teeth, sharply 4 to 5-angled, glabrous, green, tinged with purple; teeth spreading, 5 to 6 mm long, compressed-deltoid, with acute tips. Flowers: 2 to 6 in a fascicle near the base of the young stems, successively developed. Pedicel: 1.5 to 2 cm long, 2.5 mm thick, glabrous. Sepals: 6 mm long, 2 mm broad at the base, subulate from an ovate base, glabrous. Corolla: in bud somewhat turbinate, flat-topped, acutely 5-angled; when expanded 4 cm in diameter, prominently nerved on the glabrous outside; tube 6 mm long, 1.2 cm in diameter, campanulate, constricted at the mouth inside; limb abruptly spreading, with somewhat recurved lobes 1.3 cm long, 1.5 cm broad, acute or subacuminate, smooth and glabrous in the tube, elsewhere covered with watery papillae, those at the mouth of the tube tipped with a short hair; tube and disk bright sulphur yellow, lobes a dull black, not shining. Outer corona: lobes 2 mm long, subquadrate, not joined at base, shortly bifid, dull crimson. Inner corona: lobes 2.5 mm long, connivent-erect, with spreading tips, acuminate, with a transverse ridge at the base, dull yellow.
