Characteristics

Shrub to 50 cm high, often intricately branched, the branchlets usually spinescent, closely setose. Leaves clustered, linear-spathulate, truncate, usually uncinate, 1–7 mm long, setose; stipules linear, c. 0.5 mm long. Flowers solitary, axillary or on short leafy branchlets; flower-scapes 0.5–3.5 mm long. Sepals lanceolate to ovate, obtuse or acute, 1.5–2.5 mm long, petaloid, glabrous or pubescent. Petals mauve and cream; anterior petal broadly oblong, 3–5 mm long; posterior and lateral petals oblong, 1.5–3 mm long, veined. Anthers pubescent, without appendages. Capsule 2–5 mm long. Seeds 1 or 2, smooth, pale brown.
