Characteristics

Rhizome filiform, much-branched, black and wiry, sparsely covered with red-brown hairs. Fronds 1.5–16 cm long, pendulous. Stipe 0.25–5 cm long, black, glossy, unwinged or occasionally very narrowly winged almost to the base, glabrous except for a few simple red-brown hairs at the base. Lamina 1-pinnate to 1-or 2-pinnatifid, 0.7–13 cm long, 0.8–2.5 cm wide, pale green, glabrous; margins entire; primary rachis with a very narrow flat wing. Sori borne singly on dilated apices of ultimate segments; involucre rhomboidal, bilabiate, divided to the middle, remainder immersed, 1–2.2 mm long, 1–3 mm wide; base V-shaped, bordered by conspicuous vein branches; margins entire; apex rounded, obtusely angled or erose; receptacle included.
