False panicle narrow, dense, 30–40 cm. long, of up to 8 fastigiate tiers one above the other; spatheoles linear, 3–4 cm. long, at length reddish brown, the peduncle up to half as long; racemes 8–10 mm. long, 2-awned per pair, greenish or pallid, not deflexed; raceme-bases unequal, the upper 4–7 mm. long, glabrous.. Homogamous pairs 1 at the base of each raceme.. Sessile spikelet 5.5–7 mm. long, glabrous; callus 1.5–2 mm. long or rarely more, pungent; awn 4–4.5 cm. long, coarsely hirsute with rufous hairs 3–5 mm. long.. Pedicelled spikelet glabrous, with an awn-point 1–2 mm. long.
