Tufted perennial; culms 2 m. high, erect.. Leaf-blades up to 30 cm. long, 3–6 mm. wide.. False panicle scanty, loose, 30–60 cm. long; spatheoles narrowly lanceolate, 4–7 cm. long, the peduncles 1/3–1/2 as long; racemes 2.5–3 cm. long, 6–12-awned per pair, deflexed; raceme-bases unequal, the upper 1.5–4.5 mm. long, flattened, not bearded.. Homogamous pairs 1 at the base of each raceme.. Sessile spikelet 8 mm. long; callus 2 mm. long, sharply acute; awn 3.5–5 cm. long, the column pubescent with fulvous hairs 0.2–0.3 mm. long.. Pedicelled spikelet muticous.
