False panicle scanty, comprising up to 5 distant raceme-pairs (rarely the racemes single); spatheoles 4–5 cm long, linear-lanceolate, light green tinged with purple; peduncles mostly a little longer than the spatheoles, sometimes up to twice as long, rarely a little shorter, flexuous, scaberulous or pilose above; racemes 1.5–3 cm long, 7–15-awned per pair, not deflexed; raceme-bases unequal, the superior 1.5–3 mm long, terete or somewhat flattened, softly pilose or sometimes stiffly bristly, with a very short scarious rim at the apex.
Sessile spikelet 4–5 mm long; callus c. 0.5 mm long, square or semicircular, broadly obtuse; inferior glume lanceolate, glabrous or scaberulous, distinctly 9-nerved; awns 7–12 mm long, the column glabrous.
Leaf sheaths glabrous; leaf laminas 4–8 cm × 2–5 mm, linear-lanceolate, light green, flaccid.
Pedicelled spikelets c. 6 mm long, lanceolate, glabrous, acuminate; pedicel-tooth absent.
Homogamous spikelets 5–6 mm long, a single pair at the base of the inferior raceme only.
Trailing perennial; culms up to 1.6 m long, wiry, very slender.
