False panicle loose, leafy, 30–60 cm. long; spatheoles narrowly lanceolate, 3–5 cm. long, the peduncles a little shorter and bearded above with white or yellow hairs; racemes 1.2–1.7 cm. long, 3-awned per pair, deflexed; raceme bases subequal, the upper ± 1 mm. long, flattened, stiffly setose, the tip produced into an oblong, reddish, irregularly lobed appendage 0.5–1 mm. long.. Homogamous pairs 1 at the base of the lower raceme only.. Sessile spikelet 5–7 mm. long, greyish, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent; callus 1.5 mm. long, pungent; awn 4–7 cm. long.. Pedicelled spikelet with a slender awn 2–11(–14) mm. long; pedicel-tooth short.
