Characteristics

Stipe and rachis dark red-brown, becoming green near apex, bearing abundant glandular hairs; stipe 7–23 cm long, 1–3.5 mm diam. Lamina narrowly ovate to ovate, 15–55 cm long, 10–35 cm wide, 3-pinnate at base, with dense colourless glandular and non-glandular hairs, 0.3–0.7 mm long on margins and undersurface. Primary pinnae in 15–30 pairs; longest 5–20 cm long, 2–9 cm wide. Longest secondary pinnae 5–45 mm long, 10–20 mm wide, decreasing markedly in size along primary pinnae. Longest tertiary pinnae to 6 mm long and 1 mm wide, sometimes deeply divided. Veins ending in apices of ultimate pinnules. Sori lacking paraphyses, protected by slightly reflexed green laminal flaps. Spores pale, echinate, 32–34 × 20–22 µm.
