Characteristics

Perennial geophyte, soft almost hairless, 50-150 mm high; rhizome with papery tunic and few fine fibres. Leaves 6-10, linear, 50-300 x 3-18 mm, in 3 ranks or hanging laxly in taller plants at end of season, erect or semi-erect, with sparse, long, weak hairs, white on margins. Pedicels slender, lax, unequal in length bringing flowers to ± the same height. Flowers 2-4(-7), yellow, sometimes red-striped; tepals 3.5-9.0 x 1.5-4.0 mm; anther apex split; ovary 3-4 mm long; style shorter to ± equalling stigma. Flowering time (Oct.) Nov.-Jan.(-Mar.

Soft ,cormous geophyte, 5-15 cm, often forming clumps, neck membranous, sometimes sparsely fibrous. Leaves 6-10, spreading, linear, flaccid, grass-green, with sparse, long, soft, simple to stellate hairs mainly on veins and margin. Flowers 2-4(-6), yellow.
Flowers 1–4(7), corymbosely arranged; pedicels slender, ± divaricate, (6)12–36(58) mm long, appressed-pilose to patent-pilose; bracts 5–17 mm long, filiform to linear, shorter than the pedicels.
A herb. It has a bulb 2.5 cm across. The leaves are 20 cm long by 7 mm wide. They have fine hairs. The leaves taper to a long point. There are 1 or 2 flowers on slender stalks.
Leaves 4–14, erect, sessile, up to c. 40 cm × 1.5–6(8) mm, linear, glabrous or sparsely appressed-pilose, mostly on the margins and midrib abaxially; pseudostem 0–5 cm long.
Seeds dark brown, 0.8–1.2 mm in diameter, globose; testa papillose, each papilla with a minutely wrinkled cuticle and 3–4 longitudinal narrow wing-like ribs.
Perianth 10–18 mm in diameter when open; tepals up to c. 11 × 2–3.5(4) mm, narrowly elliptic, thinly pilose abaxially.
Rhizome vertical, 1.6–2.8 cm long, 1.1–2.1 cm in diameter, subglobose, equatorially ringed by stout contractile roots.
Capsule 5–12(15) × 2–4 mm, excluding the persistent perianth, turbinate-cylindric, thinly pilose, loculicidal.
Filaments 1.5–2.5(4.5) mm long; thecae 1.6–2.4 mm long, free at the apex.
Indumentum hairs 2-armed; the arms fine, appressed, ± unequal.
Scapes 1–6, slender, 1.5–17(23) cm long, appressed-pilose.
Style 0.5–1.6 mm long; stigma 1.1–2.6 mm long.
