Characteristics

Culms ca. 1 m, 0.3–0.5 cm in diam.; internodes 5–15 cm, initially white pubescent, sometimes also retrorsely white strigose below nodes; wall 1.3–2.3 mm thick; nodes weakly prominent. Culm sheaths straw-colored when dry, closely encircling culm, 5–7 cm, shorter than internode, leathery, gradually thickened toward base, densely white pubescent and retrorsely long white strigose, margins densely ciliate; auricles absent; oral setae absent or few; ligule 0.2–0.5 mm, puberulent; blade erect or reflexed, linear-lanceolate, 2.5–20 mm. Leaves 4–8 per ultimate branch; sheaths with deciduous hairs resembling those of culm sheaths; auricles absent; oral setae absent or rarely few; ligule (1–)1.5–2 mm; blade oblong-lanceolate, 13–18 × 2–3 cm, abaxially glaucous, adaxially glabrous, secondary veins 6 or 7 pairs, tessellations nearly square, base cuneate, apex long acuminate.
