Characteristics

Culms 35–80 cm, 0.3–0.5 cm in diam.; internodes initially green, 7–22 cm, white tomentose, with a brown tomentose ring below nodes; nodes elevated. Culm sheaths yellow-green, becoming orange when dry, shorter than internode, initially white tomentose, glabrous or sparsely brown strigose, base edged with dark brown setae, margins brown ciliate; auricles falcate; oral setae 4–5 mm; ligule ca. 1 mm; blade broadly triangular, amplexicaul, abaxially glabrous, adaxially hirtellous between veins, base rounded or cordate, margins minutely brown ciliate. Leaves 2–4 per ultimate branch; sheath tomentose, margins ciliate; auricles present or absent; oral setae ca. 3 mm; ligule truncate, 1–2 mm, scabrid, margin brown or pale ciliate; blade oblong-lanceolate, 15–35 × 3–3.5 cm, glabrous or abaxially pubescent near midrib, secondary veins 6–11 pairs, veins forming rectangular or square tessellations.
