Inflorescence terminal, of (1–)3–4(–6) subdigitate, very fragile, racemes, each 12–22 cm. long; internodes and pedicels purplish villous, subequal, clavate.. Sessile spikelet elliptic-lanceolate, 7–11 mm. long; lower glume coriaceous, 2-keeled above but merely incurved towards the base, convex, purplish villous, the keels narrowly winged towards the tridentate tip; upper lemma with an awn 20–45 mm. long.. Pedicelled spikelet lanceolate, 8–10 mm. long, awnless.
