Characteristics

Spreading perennial herb in grassland, tending towards a suffrutex at forest margins; branches stout and rigid, stems either tomentose on all sides, or bifariously hairy with curved, eglandular hairs from the third or fourth internode of the inflorescence downward. Leaves ovate, (23-)30-52(-68) x (9-)16-33(-45) mm, acute or acuminate; base rounded; lateral veins 4 to 5, sometimes 6. Petiole (1-)2.3-6.7(-11) mm long. Inflorescence terminal and lateral, more or less interrupted below; terminal inflorescence (30-)44-88(-124) x (8-)9.6-18(-27) mm; leaf mm, acuminate; lateral inflorescence (12-)20-50(-89) x (4-)7-15(-20) mm; leaf below inflorescence ovate to linear-lanceolate, (10-)11-15(-19) x (0.8-)3-6(-7) mm, acute to acuminate; bract at base of inflorescence linear-lanceolate, (6-)8-13(-19) x (0.5-)2-4(-6.5) mm, acuminate; bracts next to open flower linear-lanceolate, (5.5-)8-13(-18) x (1-)2-4(-4.6) mm, acuminate. Flowers 2 at a node. Sepals linear, (8-)9.2-12.6(-19) x (0.3-)0.3-0.5(-0.8) mm at anthesis; (9.5-)11-15(-19) x (0.3-)0.3-1.3(-2) mm at fruiting, outer surface with rare short and sparse long eglandular trichomes and rare short glandular trichomes, margins with sparse short and long eglandular trichomes. Corolla tube (3-)5.1-7.6(-10) x (1.5-)2.5-3.8(-4.6) mm; upper lip bifid, (4.5-)6-8(-8.5) x (5.8-)6-7.2(-8) mm; lower lip trifid, (5.5-)6-7.7(-8.5) x (5.9-)6-7.6 (-8.5) mm; ridges on palate 6 or 7. Pollen grains 38-42 µm diam. Capsule (7.1-)8.1-11 (-12) x (2.8-)2.9-3.2(-3.4) mm. Seeds (2.2-)2.3-2.8 (-3) x (1-)1.3-1.9 (-2) mm.
