A pilose to villous perennial herb up to 30 cm high; stems usually simple, arising from a stout woody rootstock. Stipules 3-4 mm long, 4-6-fid; the segments filiform, gland-tipped. Leaves sessile or ± sessile; leaf blades up to 10 x 5 cm, simple, elliptic, acute or subacute at the apex, rounded or cuneate at the base, glandular-denticulate, evenly pilose to hirsute on both surfaces; lateral nerves in 8-9 pairs. Inflorescences 4-5 cm long, terminal, subcorymbiform; peduncle c. 2 cm long; bracts up to 1 cm long, linear, sparingly glandular-stipitate, sparingly pubescent. Male flowers: pedicels 4-5 mm long; calyx tube c. 1 mm long, the lobes 5-6 x 1-1.5 mm, linear-lanceolate, acute, glandular-stipitate, pubescent without, glabrous within; petals 8 x 5 mm, obovate, obtuse, sparingly pubescent, cream-yellow; disk glands 5, free, 0.5 mm long, rounded; stamens 8, the 5 outer 5 mm long and fused for half their length, the 3 inner 6.5 mm long and fused for two-thirds their length, anthers 1 mm long. Female flowers: pedicels more robust than in male flowers; calyx lobes and petals longer than in male flowers, but otherwise similar to them; disk glands 5, free, 0.5 mm long, turbinate, truncate; ovary 2 x 1.5 mm, 3-lobed-ellipsoid, smooth, hirsute; styles c. 2 mm long, ± free, suberect, stigmas bifid, capitate, crenate-lobulate.
