Characteristics

Leaf blades up to 13 × 12 cm, palmately 3-or 5-partite, attenuate or cuneate at the base; lobes unequal, the median up to 9 × 1.7 cm, the lateral lobes smaller, all lobes linear-oblanceolate, subacute, irregularly but closely and sharply bidenticulate, the teeth eglandular; the midribs of the lateral lobes diverging from the main midrib above the base of the lamina, the lateral nerves of the median lobe in c. 20 pairs, fewer in other lobes.

Male flowers: pedicels 1.5 mm long; calyx tube 2 mm long, calyx lobes 1.3 × 1 mm, ovate, obtuse, entire; petals 7 × 2 mm, oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse or rounded, completely glabrous; disk glands 5, 0.75 × 0.75 mm, free, erect, squarish, flat; stamens 8, the 5 outer 5.5 mm long, free, the 3 inner 6 mm long, united at the base, anthers 3 mm long, sagittate.
Female flowers: pedicels 3 mm long, stouter than in the male; calyx tube 0.5 mm long, calyx lobes 3 × 1.3 mm, ovate-lanceolate, obtuse, entire; petals 8 × 1 mm, linear, obtuse, completely glabrous; disk 5-lobed, the lobes c. 1 mm across, transversely ovate, flat, rounded; ovary 2 × 1.67 mm, 3-lobed to subcylindric, smooth; styles not known.
Inflorescences terminal, up to 4 cm long, the peduncle c. 1 cm long; bracts 2–3 mm long, ovate, subentire or denticulate.
An erect glabrous branched perennial herb up to 30 cm tall, perhaps arising from a tuberous rootstock.
Stipules 4–7 mm long, strap-shaped, green, irregularly whitish-lacerate, persistent.
Fruit 1.4 × 1.2 cm, 3-lobed to subcylindric, smooth.
