Characteristics

Male flowers: pedicels 1.5 mm long; calyx 2 × 2.5 mm, campanulate, the lobes 1 × 1 mm, triangular-ovate, subacute, entire; petals 3 × 1.5 mm, elliptic, obtuse, minutely ferrugineous-pubescent within at the base, otherwise glabrous, straw-yellow to buff in colour; disk glands 5, 0.3 mm long, turbinate, oblique and concave at the apex; staminal column 3 mm high, glabrous, stamens 8, the 5 outer c. 1 mm shorter than the 3 inner and fused for half their length, the inner fused for two-thirds of their length, anthers 0.8–1 mm long, yellow.

Female flowers: pedicels 2.5 mm long, robust; sepals 2–2.5 × 1 mm, ovate-lanceolate, acute, sparingly shortly glandular-stipitate to subentire; petals 4 × 1 mm, narrowly elliptic, acute, subentire; disk glands 5, 0.6 mm wide, transversely ovate, truncate; ovary 2 × 1 mm, 3-lobed to subcylindric, glabrous; styles c. 1 mm long.
Leaf blades 2.5–3.5 × 2 cm, 3-partite or sometimes elobate, rounded at the base; lobes lanceolate, acute, closely stipitate-glandular, median lobe 2 × 0.6 cm, lateral lobes somewhat smaller; lamina 5-nerved from the base, lateral nerves of median lobe in c. 10 pairs.
Inflorescences 3 cm long, terminal, subcorymbiform; lowest bracts 3–4 mm long, linear-lanceolate, upper bracts c. 1 mm long, triangular, the rest intermediate in shape and size, all closely glandular-stipitate.
Seeds 9 × 5 × 4 mm, compressed-cylindric, scarcely shiny, ochreous-brownish, with a 4-fid, fringed caruncle 3 mm wide, orange-chestnut in colour at the base shading to buff.
Stipules 4–6 mm long, deeply dissected, multifid with setaceous-filiform segments, glandular at the apex, reddish, persistent.
Fruit 1.2 × 1 cm, 3-lobed to subcylindric, somewhat reticulate-nerved and shallowly irregularly granular-verruculose.
An erect perennial herb up to 20 cm tall; stems arising from a tuber up to 10 × 3 cm, glabrous.
