Characteristics

Male flowers: pedicels 0.5 mm long; calyx 3 × 4 mm, campanulate; calyx lobes 1.5 × 1.5 mm, triangular-ovate, obtuse, entire; petals 5 × 1.5 mm, oblanceolate-spathulate, obtuse, greenish; disk glands 5, free, minute; staminal column 4 mm high; stamens 8, the 5 outer shorter than the 3 inner, anthers 0.75 mm long.

Leaf blades 10–12 × 11–13.5 cm, 5-lobed, deeply cordate at the base, 5-nerved from the base; lobes subequal, 4–7 × 2–4 cm, oblong-oblanceolate, acutely acuminate, entire; lateral nerves of each lobe in 12–14 pairs, brochidodromous.
Seeds 12–13 × 8–9 × 6–7 mm, ovate-quadrate, dark brown, obscurely mottled with darker brown and buff, slightly shiny, with a knob-like, sulcate, shortly fimbriate brown caruncle 4 × 5 mm.
Inflorescences up to 10 cm long, terminal, subcorymbiform; bracts 1–4 mm long, triangular-lanceolate, eglandular, entire.
Fruits 1.7 × 1.5 cm, 3-lobed to subglobose, shallowly tuberculate-rugulose.
A glabrous shrub up to 4 m tall.
