Leaf blades (3)5–12 × (2)4–10 cm (in Flora Zambesiaca area), all or most leaves deeply 3–5-palmatipartite or subpalmatipartite, cuneate to truncate or rarely shallowly cordate at the base, sparingly to evenly pubescent on both surfaces, but evenly to densely so on the midribs; the median lobe 3.5–9 × 0.3–2.5 cm, narrowly elliptic-oblanceolate, the lateral lobes markedly progressively shorter and usually more narrowly lanceolate; all lobes acute or subacute, rarely obtuse, subentire or rarely dentate, often closely and densely glandular-stipitate, sometimes more sparsely so; lateral nerves in 15–20 pairs in the median lobe, fewer in the lateral lobes.

Male flowers: pedicels 2 mm long; calyx tube 0.5 mm long; calyx lobes 2–3 × 1 mm, lanceolate, acute, sparingly to uniformly glandular-stipitate, pubescent without, glabrous within; petals 4.5 × 1.5–2 mm, oblanceolate, rounded, pubescent without, pilose within, cream-coloured; disk glands 5, free, c. 1 × 0.5 mm, pulviniform, rounded-truncate; stamens 8, the 5 outer 3 mm long and fused for one-third their length, the 3 inner 3.5–4 mm long and fused for half their length, filaments glabrous, anthers 1 mm long, thecae free but not divergent at the base.
Female flowers: pedicels 2 mm long, stout; calyx tube 1.5–2 mm; calyx lobes 4–7 × 2 mm, triangular-lanceolate, evenly glandular-stipitate, pubescent without, glabrous within; petals 7–8 × 3 mm, oblong-lanceolate, otherwise as in the male; disk glands 5, free, c. 1 × 1.25 mm, suborbicular, somewhat thickened; ovary 2.5 × 2.5 mm, 3-lobed to subglobose, densely hirsute; styles 3 mm long, united at the base, suberect, stigmas capitate, bipartite, verruculose.
Seeds 9 × 5 × 3.5 mm, compressed-ellipsoid, slightly shiny, buff, mottled brown; caruncle 2 × 4 mm, depressed-hemispherical, 2-lobed, the lobes fimbriate-multifid, golden-brown with a paler fringe when dried.
Inflorescences up to 10 cm long, terminal, subcorymbiform; peduncle up to 2.5 cm long; bracts 0.5–1 cm, linear-lanceolate, glandular-stipitate, the lowest sometimes larger and foliaceous.
