Characteristics

Shrub 1.5–2.5 m high, multi-stemmed at base. Leaves opposite or subopposite, narrowly elliptic to ovate, discolorous; lamina 2.5–7 cm long, 8–25 mm wide; petiole 2.5–4.5 mm long. Inflorescence of 3-or rarely 5-flowered clusters subtended by bracts 2–4 mm long; peduncle of each cluster 3–6 mm long, with opposite or subopposite bracts. Hypanthium 7–9 mm long. Sepals usually 5, 6.5–8 mm long, reflexed at anthesis, pale green. Corolla lobes narrowly oblong to linear, 3.8–5 mm long, white. Stamens 6–8.5 mm long. Ovary hairy in distal half. Fruit 6–8 cm long, 4–6 cm diam., sometimes viviparous.
