Monoecious trees with a simple indumentum. Leaves alternate, long-petiolate, stipulate, digitate, with a pair of stipitate glands at the apex of the petiole; leaflets petiolulate, entire, penninerved. Inflorescences terminal, pleiochasial, bisexual, rarely unisexual, with ♀ flowers terminating the lower axes and ♂ the distal; bracts accrescent, becoming foliaceous, glandular or not at the base. Male flowers shortly pedicellate; calyx globose in bud, later campanulate and shortly 5-toothed, the teeth valvate; petals 5, free, imbricate; disc-glands 5, free, alternate with the petals; stamens (7–)8(–10), in 2 unequal whorls, those of the outer whorl opposite the petals and united in the lower half, those of the inner whorl three-quarters united, anthers dorsifixed, introrse in bud, later apparently extrorse when reflexed, longitudinally dehiscent; pistillode minute and bifid or 0. Female flowers shortly pedicellate; calyx 5-lobed, the lobes valvate, accrescent; petals 5, free, imbricate, soon caducous; disc 5-lobed; ovary 2-locular, with 1 ovule per locule; styles 2, short, stigmas reflexed, 3-or more-lobed. Fruit large, drupaceous, subindehiscent; exocarp fleshy; endocarp woody. Seeds compressed-ovoid, exotesta fleshy, endotesta crustaceous; cotyledons broad, flat.
