Characteristics

Plants perennial, 17--35 cm tall. Rhizomes clustered, densely branched, short. Stems terete, 1--1.4 mm in diam., striate. Cataphylls few. Basal and cauline leaves 1--3; leaf sheath auricles obtuse, sometimes inconspicuous; leaf blade terete to slightly compressed, 7--18 cm × 2--3 mm, inconspicuously septate, apex with a callus. Inflorescences terminal; involucral bract subulate, 1.1--1.8 cm; heads 2--7, subglobose, 6--13 mm in diam., with sterile flowers except for 1--3 fertile ones at base; bracts yellowish white, broadly ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 2--5.5 × 1--1.5 mm. Pedicels short. Perianth of fertile flowers yellowish white, scarious; outer segments lanceolate, 3.9--4.5 × 1--1.2 mm, veins 3, apex somewhat obtuse; inner segments oblong-lanceolate, 6--6.4 × 1.2--1.4 mm. Stamens 6; filaments ca. 6.5 mm; anthers ca. 2 mm. Style 2--2.3 mm; stigmas ca. 1 mm. Capsule (immature) orange, trigonous oblong, 3--3.5 mm, shorter than inner perianth segments, 3-septate, apex beaked; beak ca. 1 mm. Seeds sterile. Fl. Jul, fr. Aug--Oct.
