Characteristics

Plants perennial, tufted, ca. 60 cm tall. Rhizome robust. Stems terete, straight, ca. 2 mm in diam. ×ca. 3 mm at base), striate. Cataphylls few. Basal leaves 2 or 3, cauline leaves 3 or 4; leaf sheath 4--7 cm, auricles absent; leaf blade linear-lanceolate, flat, 10--14 cm × 3--6 mm, thickly papery, margin very narrowly membranous and serrulate. Inflorescences with involucral bract leaflike, ca. 9.5 cm; heads 6--7, 1--1.5 cm in diam., 6--14-flowered; bracts yellowish white, lanceolate, shorter than flowers. Perianth segments yellowish white, linear-lanceolate, apex acute to obtuse; outer segments 2.8--3.2 × 0.6--0.8 mm, abaxially thickened at center; inner segments 3.2--3.5 × 0.5--0.8 mm, veins 1--3, inconspicuous. Stamens 6; filaments 3--4 mm; anthers 0.7--1.2 mm. Ovary ovoid. Style ca. 2 mm; stigmas ca. 0.9 mm. Capsule blackish brown, shiny, trigonous ovoid, (5--)6--7 mm, 1-loculed, narrowly 3-septate, apex long beaked. Seeds ovoid, ca. 0.5 mm, both ends appendaged; appendages white, to 2.3 mm, subequal. Fl. Jul--Aug, fr. Aug--Sep.
